Garden Diary: August 2018

AUGUST_18_GD_image.jpg

Busy, hot August…

A month not spent in the garden or in the studio but instead in London, happily catching up with my family and soaking up summer in the city.

Time spent wandering slowly through the botanic gardens and glasshouses of Kew, melting in the heat and checking plant labels. A lazy Sunday morning among the crowds in Columbia road flower market, heaving with stalls selling everything from mature fig, olive and palm trees to little pots of succulents and the exotic indoor foliage plants that are currently so fashionable.Time re-charging the batteries is never wasted.

The Frida Kahlo ‘Making herself Up’ exhibition at the V&A gave me a fresh perspective on her art and the Royal Academy Summer Show, this year curated by Grayson Perry, was as inspiring as was at times infuriating.

Now I’ve re-stocked on pastels from my favourite art shop and it’s time to get back to work and frustrations of my own making!
