How it began…

I always wanted to be an artist.

After sixth form I studied at Dartington College of Arts and then Hornsey in North London, graduating with a degree in Graphic Design.

There were no computers then - text had to be traced out by hand, letter by letter with a 4H pencil and if you made a mistake you had to start again from scratch.

Luckily I am blessed with a lot of patience and hand-painted lettering has featured in my work ever since. Nothing is ever wasted!

Oh and I learnt to use watercolours through
trial and error - and a lot of practice.

And then…My first job was with a London design company and I continued in publishing, always with illustration as my main focus and nature as my inspiration. Over the years my designs have been used for paper products, fabric and ceramics and licensed in countries around the world.A love of gardening led me to a planting design course at Capel Manor College and in 2003 I entered a design for the Chelsea Flower Show that won a Silver medal and the BBC ‘People’s Award.’ Since then my own garden has featured in many magazines, including Gardens Illustrated and Homes & Gardens. I still feel surprised and lucky!

And now…

John and I moved from London to Suffolk in 2013 and I have loved having the time and space to develop a new garden and explore different ways to express my creative voice.

I’ve immersed myself in life-drawing and portrait painting, dipped my toes into ceramics and gone back to where it all started, having fun and learning to ‘begin’ all over again.

Now, as I continue to create illustrations for my licensees I’m also exhibiting my work and welcoming every new challenge.
