March 2015

WRITING THIS on the last day of March, it seems that spring is just around the corner although in comparison with 2014 it has been a slow start. Bluebell flowers are still not showing whereas this time last year they were already in full bloom.

Today a fierce wind is whipping around the garden and wreaking havoc. Snapped off tulips have been rescued and brought inside and I fear for daffodils being blown sideways as I write. (Note to myself that this is a factor that must be seriously considered when deciding on new planting).

Happily the white camellia planted in a sheltered corner is surviving unscathed and emerging foliage of Dicentra at its feet is full of promise.

My adored fritillaries, brought from London, will later be replanted in the ‘mini wild meadow’, talking of which, just look at the treats in store at nearby Wyken Hall Gardens – can’t wait to visit.
