June 2014

I AM FEELING a bit of a fraud… Looking through my batch of June photos I find myself quite unable to feature those showing the problematic, unresolved or downright boring aspects of my new garden, instead choosing details of speckle-throated foxgloves growing against a shady wall and a little of the ‘wild meadow’ area of uncut grass that is now coming into its own.

I’m aware though, that these pictures are painting a false picture. I seem to be destroying more than I am creating, and as I reach for the secateurs and yet another reject hits the compost heap, I ponder on just how to make this garden my own. Pink geraniums and bright magenta Lychnis coronaria brought from my London garden remind me of its organic curving beds and cottage garden planting and make me wonder at my indecision – formal or country style, big square lawn or meandering borders? No instant garden for me it seems – little wonder that I feel a fraud!
