Garden Diary: March 2018

Well I’m glad that’s over!

Freezing temperatures and heavy snow greeted its start, more snow fell half way through and a wet Easter ended it, as the ‘Beast from the East’ ran its unwelcome, wintry course.

Despite this I did spend three full days in the garden, mostly tidying, mulching, cutting back dead foliage and dividing overgrown clumps of herbaceous perennials. What a difference a few days make – now I feel slightly less embarrased at calling myself a gardener.

Camelia flowers are opening and native daffodils Narcissus pseudonarcissus (that somehow stayed standing despite the snow) now dot the wild meadow with their acid yellow petals while primroses and cowslips emerge around them.

Nature is amazing in it’s resilience and after all the digging up and lifting of iris clumps I just wish my back was the same.
